There are two schools of thought, those who say the world is tough and only the champions get trophies.
The other side is that sports teach healthy habits and we want our children to desire to be active and grow into a lifestyle that will include daily exercise as a fun part of life. What better way to encourage this than to give participant awards. Children will learn soon enough that growing up isn’t easy.
Who is a winner, is it only the team that has more points on the scoreboard? I believe a winner is every child that works, learns and participates. They become healthier, learn how to work in a group and have fun.
We should encourage children by letting them know the time, effort and work they put in on the fields, courts and gyms are worthwhile and they are all worthy of an award.
